The SA-16A2 from Springfield Armory® is a faithful recreation of the M-16A2, one of the most capable and iconic rifles in history. Featuring a variety of upgrades over its predecessor, the M-16A2 was designed for increased performance and accuracy. These upgrades had an immediate effect on the battlefield and the unmistakable profile of this legendary firearm was soon seen across the globe. The SA-16A2 pays homage to the venerable M-16A2 service rifle. Its adoption marked a transition towards modernized infantry weaponry, enhancing effectiveness and reshaping combat tactics, leaving an enduring impact on military operations.

When first introduced in the 1950s, the AR-pattern design featured a radically unique carry handle as part of the upper receiver. The integrated rear sight on the carry handle of the SA-16A2 is adjustable for windage and elevation, while its dual aperture design facilitates accurate shooting at varying distances.

The SA-16A2 features an M16-pattern bolt carrier group, with a Carpenter 158 steel bolt and staked gas key for enhanced strength and performance. High-pressure tested and magnetic particle inspected (HPT/MPI), it ensures consistent performance and durability. Additionally, its phosphate exterior and hard chrome lined interior provide protection for a lifetime of service.

Designed to offer excellent ergonomics and impressive durability, the fixed stock assembly of the SA-16A2 provides stability and control while firing. In addition, an integrated trapdoor storage compartment in the buttplate rounds out the package.

The round, ribbed handguard of the SA-16A2 features integral aluminum heat shields and facilitates comfortable handling and maneuverability in various shooting positions. The forend houses the 20” chrome-lined barrel with a 1:7” twist and M4 feed ramps as well as a rifle-length gas system, for both accuracy and reliability.

Adding to the appeal of the rifle, the lower receiver of the Springfield Armory SA-16A2 features unique “Government Property” markings as well as a non-functional “burst” selector marking ­­— inspired by the three-shot burst modification of the M-16A2 rifle. To enhance performance, the Accutite tensioning system eliminates any movement between the upper and lower receivers.
